Qualities of a Good Agent
Real estate agents need to possess certain qualities. Some of them are basic requirements needed in any profession. Other traits are unique to the profession. But the bottom line is when customers come to your doorstep, whether they are buying or selling their home, they want to know they are qualified hands.
Be Professional
You will want to be professional throughout the whole process. Do not get overly friendly or relaxed with your customers. They are not coming to you for friendship, but for sales purposes. If your office is in your home keep that section as business like as possible. Do not make your clients walk over toys or go through a messy kitchen to conduct business.
Be a People Person
Learn how to wear a smile. Anyone who works with people has to learn to mask when they are having a bad day. Friendliness and politeness will go miles in winning clients. Clients buying or selling a house want to know you have their best interests at heart. They do not want to feel rushed or hurried. Or like you are squeezing them in between bigger and better clients.
Always be straightforward and honest. Never promise things you cannot deliver. If you do not know the answer to a question assure your clients you will find out the answer. Never do anything dishonest or immoral. Your reputation will go downhill faster than you can believe.
Be Knowledgeable
Know your state and local real estate laws and requirements. Have the basic language and math skills you need. If you are doing residential sales take time to thoroughly know the neighborhoods you are buying and selling in. Learn where the schools area hospitals and recreation areas are located. Little things like knowing if there is a local home schooling group can make a big difference to your clients.
Do the Little Things
Keep up with your clients and keep them posted on the progress of their sale. Help them with paperwork and provide knowledge of services they might need to complete the deal. Answer the phone with a smile in your voice. Take the time to answer client’s questions and concerns. Provide new neighborhood packets for those moving into the area. Small things that may take a little of your time will be greatly appreciated by your customers. And people spread the word about what they appreciate to their friends and family. |
