Finding a Job
Real estate agents are going to be needed as long as people or companies are buying and selling real estate. Finding a job as a real estate agent is going to depend on several factors.
Working for Someone Else
If you decide to contract your service to a brokerage firm or train under a brokerage firm, check your local real estate agents for any openings. You can choose to work full time or part time, a decision that may affect your job options, as well.
Opting to become an office assistant in a real estate firm is one job option. You might also try the mortgage department of an area bank. Positions such as these typically provide good training as well as a steady income.
Working On Your Own
If you decide to become an independent agent you still might want to do some contract work for a brokerage firm when getting started. This can help with the money situation until you are up and running. In the beginning you will want to take what you can in order to gain the necessary experience to venture out on your own.
Check out what is already in your area. It would not be wise to open shop on a street that already has five real estate agent’s offices on it unless you live in a major metropolitan area. Consider what is out there in regards to sales, as well. If most of the agents in your area handle residential real estate then you might want to consider specializing in something else, such as commercial properties.
The Job Market
The job market for real estate agents depends somewhat on what the economy is doing in the area of housing. For some time now this has been a strong market and the indications are that it will stay that way. People need housing and most of them would rather a professional real estate agent handle the details.
New housing and new businesses spring up everyday. People move with their jobs. A committed real estate agent who is willing to put in time and start at the bottom of the ladder should have no trouble finding work. Opportunities abound if you are willing to work for them. |
